TIPS FOR THE BEST BANANA CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
- Use a banana that is VERY ripe. We’re talking all kinds of brown. The kind of banana that you would most definitely throw away. But don’t, keep them and make delicious and fluffy banana chocolate chip cookies. Using ripe bananas is important to get the perfect amount of sweetness in your cookies.
- Add sea salt to your banana chocolate chip cookie recipe. As soon as you pull your cookies out of the oven, sprinkle them with sea salt crystals. It adds a little crunch to your cookie and cuts the sweetness just the slightest bit in the most perfect way.
- Get YOSELF a cookie scoop. Ooooohhh the cookie scoop is a game changer for the cookie baking world. Making dough balls is way less messy and super quick. You had me at way less messy. Am I right!? I personally have a cookie scoop that holds 3 tablespoons of dough. This makes a really good sized cookie. If you are wanting a cookie scoop that makes smaller cookies, find one that holds 1.5-2 tablespoons of dough. Also, definitely get a cookie scoop that is spring loaded. Nobody has time to try and dig dough out of a cookie scoop. LOL
HOW TO STORE BANANA BREAD COOKIES
Banana bread cookies are best eaten fresh. However, they do store very nicely. I prefer to store my cookies in an airtight container in the refrigerator. I do this because the cookies contain fresh fruit in them. I’m not sure what kinds of funky things would happen to the cookies if left at room temperature. I like to be safe and keep them cool. I store my cookies for 5-6 days. (They never lat this long. LOL)
Personally I think the cookies are delicious straight out of the refrigerator, but if cold cookies are not your thing, just let them sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before you take a bite. PRO TIP- pop your cookie in the microwave for just a few seconds (they get hot fast). It’s like having a cookie fresh out of the oven.
Banana bread cookies with chocolate chips also freeze beautifully. Since this is an extremely moist cookie, you’ll want to flash freeze the cookies while they are in a single layer on a baking sheet. Once they are frozen you can stack them in an airtight container. If you stack them right away they will stick together.
This is another one of those recipes that’s going to make your house smell like heaven. Is banana bread chocolate chip cookies a candle scent? It definitely should be. Now that I think about it, is there really any cookie scent that shouldn’t be made into a candle scent?
This banana chocolate chip cookie recipe is the perfect addition to a brunch spread. It’s really the perfect addition to any event, including no event all all. We love having cookies around for no reason other than to fulfill that sweet tooth. I hope these banana bread cookies bring you and your families’ bellies joy. Happy baking, friends. Until the next cookie recipe!

Description
A sweet banana and brown sugar flavored cookie filled with chocolate chips and sprinkled with sea salt. This banana bread chocolate chip cookie is soft, chewy and moist, just like banana bread. It gets extra bonus points for being super easy to make too!
Ingredients
- 1 medium ripe banana
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg yolk*
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon sea salt crystals
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350° and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside for later.
- Chop up 1/4 cup of your 1 cup of chocolate chips. Set aside for later.
- In a medium bowl mash one ripe banana. Mine was medium in size. Add in butter and sugar. Mix until well combined.
- Add in egg yolk and vanilla. Mix until just combined.
- In the same bowl, add in flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. Mix until you no longer see streaks of flour.
- Fold in the remainder of the chocolate chips.
- This is a sticky dough. You’ll want to use some sort of cookie scoop or spoon to help you make your dough balls. Put 6-8 dough balls on your prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle the tops of the dough balls with your chopped chocolate. Pat the chocolate down ever so slightly without flattening the dough ball.
- Bake the cookies for 11-12 minutes or until the edges of your cookies start to turn a light golden color. The cookies will continue to bake while cooling. Do not over bake.
- Remove the cookies from the oven. Immediately sprinkle with sea salt crystals (this step is optional). Allow them to cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before moving to a wire rack or parchment paper.
- ENJOY!
Notes
- A ripe banana is the key to this recipe. I like to let mine get pretty brown.
- You can totally skip the chopping of the 1/4 cup chocolate chips and sprinkling them on top of the cookies if it’s to much of a hassle for you. I do this because it makes them look pretty and I love a pretty cookie. They’ll be wonderful with all of the chocolate chips just mixed into the dough. I promise!
- You can freeze the banana chocolate chip cookie dough. Flash freeze the dough balls on a baking sheet in a single layer. Don’t skip this step. It ensures that the dough balls won’t stick together. Once those babies are frozen throw them all together in an airtight container or a freezer ziplock bag. Now you have dough balls ready to make yummy cookies whenever you please!
